Mar. 28, Interview - So what does Mike Gravel's change mean for voters and for the libertarian Party?
For a political party whose preamble says all individuals are sovereign over
their own lives and no one is forced to sacrifice his or her values for the benefit
of others, will members joining from different ends of the political spectrum
change the focus.
Bob Barr represented the 7th district of Georgia from 1995-2003
for the House of Representatives. In 2006 he made the switch to the Libertarian
party and is now a member of the Libertarian National Committee.
He says Mike
Gravel's announcement sends a message to the American people.
"There is an alternative that's alive and well, and is attracting people
of the stature of Senator Gravel, that they indeed do have a home if they
are dissatisfied as many, many Americans are with the choices offered by
the two major parties."
"The purpose of the Libertarian Party is to spread freedom and liberty,
by maximizing individual liberty, and minimizing government power. That is
