Jacqueline Johnson, Executive Director from National
Congress of American Indians to talk about the outreach presidential candidates are making to Native Americans
some of their key issues.
This year the 3 front runner presidential candidates are reaching out to Native
Americans in various way. According to the Executive director of National Congress
of American Indians, Jacqueline Johnson, the candidates all have platform or
issue statements and some have past experience working with Indian tribes.
Johnson says native Americans tend to vote more for the individuals who support
their causes than vote along party lines. Johnson...
"The tendency in the past was more toward Democrat but in the last couple
of years, there has been growing support for Republicans as well."
Johnson says native Americans are looking for a presidential candidate that
can understand Indian County sovereignty, honor the land trusts agreements signed
by the US government and provide resources to deal with health, education,
and transportation issues.
